Hello,
A couple days ago I upgraded my hardware to AMD Phenom II X6 1090T and reinstalled OS (Win7 64-bit) along with TimelineFX. Since then I am experiencing terrible slowdowns while viewing particles – FPS is usually between 1 and 5 on 100% zoom. Other applications seem fine so I wouldn’t suspect that it’s a CPU problem. Not sure if that’s needed but my GPU is Radeon X1900 512MB, system memory is 4GB, everything built on ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard. My display drivers are up to date (Catalyst 10.2).
When I close the program a message pops up saying EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. Also, Paint Mode (Ctrl+B) causes the program to be unresponsive and Task Manager must be used to close it.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi,
Well your system is certainly up to it! Timelinefx uses opengl so I’m wondering is there’s something wrong with your opengl drivers. They should be installed when the graphics drivers are installed so I wonder if something happened to mess them up. Do you have other applications that use opengl to see if they are performing ok or not?
You could also try downloading vaders from this site, just a small mini game that uses opengl also. Link is here: http://www.rigzsoft.co.uk/files/Vaders.zip
Let me know if that runs ok or not.
Hi Pete and thanks for reply.
Indeed, this must be some sort of graphic driver issue. I tried installing different versions of Catalysts, including 9.3 which was supposed to handle OpenGL correctly, but no luck. But once I switched to my onboard GPU (HD 4200) the framerate is good.
Do you plan to add support for DirectX at some point? It could be helpful since problems with OpenGL in Vista and Win7 is a common issue.
Anyway, thanks for help!
I *may* be able to add direct x support I’m not sure. The editor is built using wxWidgets which is multiplatform and uses opengl as a result, so I’m sure sure if I can attach a directx canvas or not, I’ll have to look into it.
I’ve heard ATI can be a bit funny with opengl sometimes, I have win 7 64 here with nVidia gfx card. I have a got an ati card lying around though, I might plug it in and see what happens. You might find there’s something you can tweak in the opengl settings of the catalyst drivers to get it running properly. Perhaps it’s just a specific setting causing issues. I’ll report back as soon as I find anything š
