crumpled_sandwhichParticipantFirst off, thank you for making a powerful particle effect program and also making it affordable. I’ve been have fun learning and using it these past few weeks.
I came across a bug or perhaps an issue that I’m misunderstanding.
I have a particle cloud effect that I want to export as 64 frames onto a sprite sheet. In the Animation option I set the Frame Offset to 10 (originally 20) and then set the Frames to 64 and click on Update. What happens is that the animation will play completely through. However if I export/save the animation and go back to the main Animation screen and hit play, a potion of the animation will not be played. Also on the saved file it looks like the last 16 or so frames are the same.
It seems that using such a large offset is the cause of the problem, I’ve used smaller ammounts like 2-4 and it seemed fine. I worked around this by simply saving out more individual frames than I needed and then using Photoshop to make the sprite sheet.

peterigzKeymasterHi, I’m not sure I understand completely what you mean, is it possible you could send me the effect with the issue so I can investigate?

crumpled_sandwhichParticipantSure, here is a link to effect. The best way to see the issue is to simply click on the play button (in Animation Properties). You will notice that the animation will play only up to about the 53rd frame and then go back to the beginning, so it basically skips frame 54-64.

peterigzKeymasterThanks for the file. Yes there’a something going on there! I looks to me that it’s actually a display bug for the frame slider, it seems to get stuck for the first x amount of frames (whatever you set the offset to) then starts moving, but only goes up to the number of frames minus the offset. The animation itself however does seem to look correct though, and it seems OK when I export it, I don’t think there’s any repeating frames.
I think it’s just not initialising the dialogue window properly when you first open it as if you change the offset to 11 then back again and click update it sorts itself out. Either way I’ll look to sort it out in the next update.
Just a side note, wouldn’t you want an effect like this to be looped? IE, set the offset to 0 and check the loop animation checkbox?

crumpled_sandwhichParticipantDoh!
You are right, I just eyeballed it and didn’t see the change in the last few frames of the sprite sheet. Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to waste any of your time.
I’m still learning the tool and this was an early test/experiment. My plan with it was to learn how to make a single play animation to be used for explosions similar to how flameArc8.png is done. In this effect I came across the weird issue and just figured I’d mention it.
On a side note the documentation is missing info on the “Super Effect”. I was able to understand how to use it by looking through your release notes blog. You may want to update that part.
Thanks for the help, this is an impressive program, I’m having a good time with it.

peterigzKeymasterNo that’s fine, thanks for the bug report! I’ll look to update the docs for super effects to, glad you’re enjoying using it š
